þ  Paradise Acres will supply and administer rotational wormer 6 times per year.

þ  Ferrier trimming is on an as-needed basis, and is included in the monthly board.  We prefer that your horse has its shoes removed prior to, or upon arriving at, Paradise Acres to ensure the safety of the other horses.  Our soft grassy pastures are perfect for horses going barefoot for the first time.  We have a wonderful ferrier who has extensive training in special needs horses.  He takes continuing education courses every year to keep up with the latest advances in hoof care.

þ  Free access to mineral and salt blocks.

þ  Owner supplied  supplements fed.

þ  Fresh well water supplied via automatic watering system.

þ Fresh Electrolyte water supplied daily during the hotter days of Summer.

þ Blankets, fly sheets and fly masks washed a minimum of once each month.

þ Horses will be fed our own fresh, farm raised hay to supplement them in the winter months, or on an as-needed basis, to maintain a healthy weight.  Alfalfa and Oat Hay are also available and will be fed according to each individual horse's nutritional needs.

þ We perform minor first aid and apply topical medications. For minor cuts and scrapes, topical medications are supplied and administered by Paradise Acres at no additional charge.  More severe or long-term injuries will be assessed by a certified equine veterinarian (vet visit & assessment will be billed directly to owner) and the cost to purchase additional medications, supplies or bandages will be billed to the owner at my cost.  Necessary bandage changes will be done for no additional charge.

þ
Vaccinations are given twice each year by a licensed equine veterinarian.  The farm visit fee will be paid by Paradise Acres.  The cost of the vaccines, teeth floating (if necessary) and any other necessary vet treated items will  be billed to you directly from the equine veterinarian. We have 3 fantastic veterinarians who are all on-call and are within 5 miles of Paradise Acres.

þ We regularly hold practice drills with all of our boarded equines to ensure that they are comfortable with loading and unloading should we need to do so during an emergency evacuation.  Due to our location, fires and earthquakes are not much of a threat, and our area is on a high plain and has never been flooded.  But we believe that if you aren't prepared, it will eventually happen, so we have a plan in place . . . just in case!  I am also a Large Animal and Livestock Evacuation Volunteer for Butte County and have been trained in extensive safety measures, as well as, trailering in extreme conditions.

þ When the unfortunate time comes for your equine to leave us for that big beautiful pasture in the sky, we will arrange for euthanasia to take place in one of our beautiful pastures (away from the other horses) and we will be there with your horse to comfort him (if you can not be there during this very difficult time, you can rest assured knowing that he will be affectionately smothered in kisses and kind words to get him over the Rainbow Bridge.   The call fee and all charges associated with the euthanasia process will be billed directly to you by our equine veterinarian.  Paradise Acres will not charge you for making arrangements or for being there to hold and comfort your horse.  It is our way of telling your best friend "thank you"

Our Morning Routine

Horses are brought in and fed owner supplied supplements.  All daily supplements, treats and supplemental feedings will be done in individual 12x12 stalls to ensure the safety of each horse and to ensure that each horse has consumed their supplements before being turned back out into their pasture.

*  Health inspection is done

*  Fly sheets and fly masks are put on, or blankets taken off in winter months

*  Fly spray administered

Our Evening Routine

Horses brought in and fed treats to perform another health check. Carrots, apples or warm bran mash (in winter months) fed as a small treat.

Horses get to take a nightly walk through our fruit orchard in the summer evenings and are allowed to pick their own Apricots, Nectarines, Peaches and Apples.  This is a favorite summer ritual!

*  Fly sheets and fly masks removed, or blankets put on in winter months.

Our all inclusive rates:

Every horse arriving at Paradise Acres needs the following

þ Signed Boarding Agreement

þ We suggest no shoes if possible (horses with hind shoes will not be turned out
with other horses).

þ Waterproof blanket, Fly sheet, fly mask with attached nose cover.

þ First and last months board or yearly prepaid

Supplements are provided by the owner on an as-needed basis.  You can easily order the supplements you want from your favorite vendor and have them shipped to us.
If you would like Paradise Acres to obtain the supplements of your choice, we can do
this for you.  We will charge you at our cost, including shipping.

Fly masks, waterproof blankets and fly sheets to be supplied by the owner, or reimbursed
at my cost, as needed. Blankets must be waterproof and have synthetic and/or fleece
lining. A separate fleece liner is also recommended so that we can “layer” appropriately
for colder nights.

Your blankets will be maintained, washed and will be taken for repairs as needed and stored in tack trunks over the summer.  The maintenance and washing will be paid for by Paradise Acres.  Repairs will be billed at my cost.

Unfortunately, our property is mostly pasture and very little extra space, so trailer storage is not available.

You will see that if you add in each additional expense that other retirement facilities charge, for the same services that we offer, the monthly board with Paradise Acres will be an average of $125.00 cheaper.  Blanketing, grooming, fly spray, wormings, feeding supplements, hoof trimming, grass filled pastures, all carry an additional charge elsewhere.

Our philosophy is that every horse deserves a premium retirement package.  We won't groom and clean the feet of only some.  We don't believe that some horses deserve fly spray while others must suffer with swatting flies all day.  I am too passionate about horses to be the "average" boarding facility.  If an owner chooses not to have me use fly spray on their horse so that they could save money, my conscience and sympathy would not allow me to simply walk by that horse and let it suffer.  I just can't do it, which means I can only be an all-inclusive facility.

We ask that you please shop around and compare each of our services to those of other boarding facilities.  When you compare apples to apples . . . your horse's care will amount to much more than the "average."
